FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thornbury, 17 July 2025 – Optima Systems Consultancy today welcomed the historic transition of INCOSE UK to the Institute for Systems Engineering (IfSE), marking a significant milestone for the UK Systems Engineering community.
The transformation, effective 16 July 2025, establishes IfSE as a dedicated professional home for systems engineers whilst maintaining the profession’s status as a licensed Professional Engineering Institute under the Engineering Council. The new institute will serve over 1,000 individual members and their supporting organisations, assuming all assets and liabilities from INCOSE UK whilst continuing to provide essential professional recognition, guidance, and community support.
“This transition represents a pivotal moment in the recognition of Systems Engineering as a distinct profession in the UK,” said Chris Lamb, Managing Director of Optima Systems Consultancy. “Systems Engineering delivers exceptional economic value in our increasingly technology-driven society, yet the discipline often operates behind the scenes. A more distinctive brand for our leading professional institute will significantly enhance the profile and understanding of Systems Engineering across the UK.”
Optima Systems Consultancy has maintained strong collaborative ties with INCOSE UK for many years, with team members holding senior council positions, spearheading diversity and inclusion initiatives, and contributing to strategic advisory boards. The company looks forward to continuing this partnership with IfSE as the profession expands its influence and reach.
Chris Lamb, who served on the INCOSE UK Council when the IfSE transition was first proposed, added: “It’s particularly rewarding to see the extensive preparation work for this transition come to fruition. I extend my gratitude to INCOSE UK for their years of professional leadership and welcome the promising future that IfSE represents for our community.”
The Institute for Systems Engineering will build upon INCOSE UK’s legacy whilst positioning the profession for continued growth and recognition in the UK’s engineering landscape.
