What matters to you when you’re looking for your next career move?
- Are you looking for intellectually challenging responsibilities and activities to fulfil our career aspirations?
- Do you want to dive in to complex projects that makes a real difference?
- Are you looking for an honest, inclusive and positive culture that prioritises wellbeing?
If so, then Optima could be your next career challenge!
You have a background in systems or similar engineering discipline within a complex engineering environment and be able to work across a range of activities at various stages of the Systems Engineering Lifecycle. You thrive on doing something different every day and are comfortable with ambiguity. You seek to continually acquire new skills and knowledge including critical soft skills beyond technical expertise. You are a great communicator who can understand and decompose complexity and present it to the client in simple terms.
You also have the following skills and traits that helps you deliver results:
- Logical reasoning and problem solving
Can you make sense of complex challenges faced by clients in a short timescale, and articulate viable solutions? Are you comfortable without the complete picture? We often face situations with a lack of data to analyse therefore we have to make reasonable assumptions and estimates based on our logical reasoning and experience.
- Analytical skills
With the rise of digitalisation (as well as Big Data and Analytics), demand for analytical and quantitative skills among (consultancy) professionals is growing. Consultants regularly conduct research through their ability to gather and analyse data (and presenting their findings to clients), which forms a crucial skill for consultants.
- Intellectual curiosity
We love curiosity in our consultants, it shows a willingness to learn and push the edges. This outlook helps when we work in diverse sectors and areas of expertise. It is also important in allowing us to break complexity down to its intrinsic parts and communicate that effectively to our client teams.
We need our people to display empathetic leadership toward their clients, work collaboratively to approach a problem, guiding them during a project.
We need to show initiative, both in delivery and discovery of work. With our consultants continuously busy solving complex problems, they have to find ways of identify the change required, develop the solutions and translate them into business plans, as well as seeing the longer-term growth potential with a client.
Working for a consultancy like Optima provides a great many possibilities for personal development. We have a diverse range of work we can be involved with, across the industrial sectors from Defence to Civil Nuclear, across the product lifecycles, interacting with Chief Operating Officers and Engineers alike and delivering tangible items, like a ship, to intangibles such as assisting clients deliver organisational transformation.
We deploy into larger implementation projects teams, but most often we support smaller teams where our consultants can be expected to take much of their project role’s responsibility. Dealing with such a degree of responsibility, with the intellectual challenge and project complexity, are features that many of our Consultants are seeking.
Our team is made up of exceptional, curious people with a passion to get things done better. Our reputation gives us the opportunity to work on world-class projects and make a difference. Our culture of openness is key to our access and we think that business has to balance with life, and that people matter, so we offer highly competitive remuneration and benefits, continual CPD training and development and flexible working.
We’re on a lookout for the best engineers and scientists so, if that sounds like you too and you’d like to find out more, please get in touch by sending a short CV and cover letter to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
