Optima Systems Consultancy is proud to welcome Fergus Hawkins to our team. Fergus joins our team as a Senior Systems Engineer with approaching 30 years of experience in aerospace, defence and security sectors.
Fergus served for 24 years in the Engineering Branch of the Royal Air Force, supporting eight different aircraft types in roles including flight line operations, avionic and software sustainment, information systems procurement and support solution development. His military service also included high-profile roles in broader peace support operations in Abkhazia and Afghanistan and latterly, senior Staff Officer support to the Chief of Staff Personnel – focusing on change management.
Fergus has particular specialist experience, formal training and qualifications in support engineering and information systems. He managed large teams in operations, project and deployed environments where change has been a continuous feature of team activities. More recently he’s been working on the introduction to service of the A400M, the solution development and bid preparation within Boeing for the P-8A maritime patrol aircraft and supported the Project Gladiator Simulation and Wargaming Training System installation.
In his spare time, Fergus is an interviewer/assessor for Chartered and Incorporated Engineers through the IET; he rows with the Avon County Rowing Club and is an occasional offshore sailor.
