Optima welcomes Adam Newns and Mya Dunderdale

New Year, New Heights: Optima Systems Consultancy is thrilled to announce the newest additions to our distinguished team – Adam Newns and Mya Dunderdale.

Adam joins our team as a Senior Systems Engineer with over 18 years of experience in Defence, particularly the maritime sector; having served as a Weapon Engineering Officer within the Royal Navy for over 16 years.

As a Chartered Engineer, Adam has spent considerable time across all lifecycle phases within various projects working for both Delivery Agent and Customer.  He was the lead RN Officer and System Engineer for the First of Class firing trials for Sea Ceptor, Requirements Manager for the T23 platform and T31 Combat System Acceptance Authority. Adam has been a full time student at Cranfield University to gain an MSc in Guided Weapons

After leaving the RN, Adam worked for a short period within the SDA as a lead engineer within the MoD Category Management initiative and most recently as the lead engineer in the Pre Concept phase for the Future Air Dominance System (FADS). Adam has extensive experience of Naval Combat Systems integration, management and embodiment of Government Furnished Equipment and is well versed in UK MoD systems, processes and organisation.

Beyond the Boardroom, Adam is retired long course triathlete, his spare time is now often taken up with family time with his young daughter (and many animals!) or newfound love of CrossFit.

Mya, a Rising Star in Systems Engineering, has joined the Optima team as a Systems Engineering Consultant from Thales. She brings two years of previous experience in Nuclear and Defence Systems Engineering and a BEng in Mechanical Engineering.

Her main experience is in requirements engineering and architecting for enterprise level PLM tools for digital transformation in nuclear new build. She led root cause analysis investigations with a questioning attitude to augment the robustness of naval Mine Countermeasure capabilities, utilising Six Sigma methodologies, also developing her expertise in system performance and reliability assessments and change impact assessments.

Life beyond work: Mya can be found enjoying time with those she loves, stroking her two super cute kittens, out for a walk or trying out a new hobby such as aerial hoops or kickboxing.
