Defence Consultancy: Helping the British Army Shape Tomorrow’s Capabilities

Our team supported the British Army in planning its future capabilities. As part of a wider five-year business change programme, we applied Systems Thinking to engage stakeholders across the defence enterprise. This helped us identify key challenges and define the need for a structured framework to assess current and future land capabilities.

Using proven systems analysis techniques, we developed the Land Reference Framework (LRF). This framework allows users to navigate Land Doctrine, Capabilities, and Mission Threads, supporting a wide range of engineering analyses in the Land Domain.

With the LRF, the client now has a comprehensive capability view of Land Capability structures across defence. It enables technical and engineering teams to:

  • Assess the impact of capability changes

  • Identify capability dependencies

  • Align with current Land Doctrine

The LRF has already been applied successfully in Special Projects and the Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) programme. Beyond defence, this approach offers strong potential for any organisation facing complex challenges, providing a powerful foundation for detailed systems analysis and business decision-making.
