Optima have been Appointed to UKAEA’s Engineering Framework

Optima Systems Consultancy is pleased to announce its appointment to the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s (UKAEA) multi-supplier Embedded Engineering Resource Framework (EERF).

This commitment marks a new milestone in our long-standing collaboration with UKAEA and reinforces our commitment to providing specialist Systems Engineering expertise for the fusion energy sector.

According to UKAEA: “The Framework, with a value up to £9m, supports the development of a UK industrial supply chain capability. It affords seven selected companies the opportunity to embed and upskill their own engineers within the multiple projects and programme areas at UKAEA as it undertakes fusion energy research.”

Under Lot 7, which focuses on Systems Engineering, Optima will contribute to UKAEA’s mission to advance the commercial development of fusion power and related technologies. This partnership forms part of an effort to strengthen the UK’s position as a global leader in sustainable nuclear energy.

Optima has served as a trusted partner to UKAEA since 2018, providing systems engineering support across a range of flagship programmes, including the Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP), Mega Amp Spherical Tokamak (MAST) Upgrade, Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE), Joint European Torus (JET), Hydrogen-3 Advanced Technology (H3AT), Fusion Technology Facility (FTF), and JET Decommissioning & Repurposing (JDR, detailed in our case study). Additionally, we continue to support UKAEA through its Engineering Design Services (EDS) framework.

As we embark on this exciting new chapter within the EERF, Optima is proud to continue delivering high-calibre engineering support – combining rigour, innovation, and the practical Systems Thinking needed to grow the fusion ecosystem and help accelerate the commercialisation of fusion energy.
